Lesson One: Overview of Divorce in Australia
We give you a general introduction to how divorce works in Australia. We discuss the key issues usually on people’s minds when they divorce – children and money. And you’ll learn how divorce laws have changed in the 21st century.
[Viewing approximately 11 minutes] We get you started on how financial wealth gets divided in divorce. This lesson explains what the courts see as a “just and equitable” outcome. The division is not 50-50 in most cases. Instead it’s an attempt at a balancing act. Although there can be up to 30 different factors to consider, there are 3 core issues that the courts find most important. We’ll take a look at those.
[Viewing approximately 4 minutes] Lesson Three: Financial Outcomes
In this lesson, we show that there are predictable ranges of financial divorce outcomes that apply to the vast majority of Australian couples who are separating. You’ll see clear facts about these ranges – detailed statistics about what actually happens in Australia.
[Viewing approximately 14 minutes] In this lesson you learn more detail about the ranges. We describe scenarios of various couples, each with different fact patterns, and why their splits are not all the same. Some of those couples may have fact patterns similar to yours.
